When you register for a course that has a distance learning component, you will be issued a login name and a password for the University of Alberta computing systems.
Your login name and password provide access to virtual classroom technologies called eClass (Moodle) and eClass Live! (Elluminate):
eClass — a software program that manages web-based courses including access to course materials and asynchronous discussion
eClass Live! — a program that allows instructors and course participants to text chat, talk over the Internet, deliver PowerPoint presentations, and draw or write on whiteboard
Computer and technology requirements:
This course requires participants to have basic Internet and email skills.
A high speed internet connection is strongly recommended; otherwise participants may encounter long loading times or be timed out when using eClass Live!
A web browser that is JavaScript enabled
PowerPoint
Adobe Acrobat Reader
Microsoft Word (or compatible word processing software)
Recommended browsers for Moodle 2.0 are:
Firefox 3.0 or later (for PC)
Safari 3.0 or later (for Mac)
The following browsers are compatible with Moodle in most instances when viewing Moodle but may have some compatibility issues:

Settings
For Moodle to work properly, we recommend the following updates and settings:
Pop ups: enabled
Cookies: enabled (with prompt or without)
Java: ensure you have an up to date version of Java by visiting http://www.java.com
