The course will provide learning opportunities for pharmacists to be able to:
Describe the scope of pharmacy practice as it relates to influenza.
Identify key pharmacy services for influenza prevention and management.
Differentiate between influenza-like symptoms and those of other similar infections.
Assess patients with influenza-like symptoms.
Refer patients for additional care.
Outline the role of antivirals in the treatment and prevention of influenza.
Prescribe or recommend antivirals appropriately in an emergency situation.
Recommend ancillary/supportive therapies for symptom management.
Describe the role of vaccination in influenza prevention.
Recommend influenza vaccination when indicated.
Identify proper infection control procedures.
Identify resources for current and accurate patient information on influenza prevention and management.
