Sheri Koshman, BScPharm, PharmD, ACPR Sheri is currently an Assistant Professor with the Division of Cardiology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta and a Clinical Pharmacotherapy Practitioner with Pharmacy Services, Alberta Health Services. Upon completing her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of British Columbia in 2005, she did a postdoctoral fellowship in ambulatory cardiology. She currently practices in three outpatient cardiology clinics at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute including the Cardiac EASE Clinic, Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Clinic and the Heart Function Clinic. Sheri is actively involved with the profession through the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists. She was one of the first 15 pharmacists to receive additional prescribing authorization in Canada.
Glen Pearson, BSc, BScPhm, PharmD, FCSHP
Glen completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree at the University of Western Ontario before going on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Sciences. At present, Glen is a member of the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine and teaches medical and dental students as well as co-coordinates a graduate course in medicine. He also provides a number of lectures in CV pharmacotherapeutics to both undergraduate and graduate health professions students. In addition, he is the Co-Director of Cardiac Transplantation Clinic and Medical Director and Director of Research in the CV Risk Reduction Clinic. Glen also has an active interest in practice-based research. He has published a number of articles on his research and practice in the medical and pharmacy journals. Glen also frequently delivers CE lectures to physicians, pharmacists and nurses on CV pharmacotherapeutics and related topics. He was honoured to receive the 2008 M.J. Houston Pharmacist of the Year Award and 2011 Partners in Practice Award for the Cardiac Transplant Team from the Alberta College of Pharmacists and the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association. In 2008, he also received special recognition for the achievement in becoming one of the first fifteen pharmacists in Canada to be granted additional prescribing authorization. In 2011 he was recognized with an Alberta Pharmacy Centennial Award of Distinction.
Lisa M Guirguis, BScPharm, MSc, PhD
Lisa is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Alberta. She completed a BScPharm with Distinction from the University of Alberta and started her career in community pharmacy. She then obtained a Master of Science from the University of Alberta and a PhD in Social and Administration Sciences in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin. Lisa’s research is focused on how pharmacy practice can best optimize patients’ drug therapy outcomes in the community setting. Specific research and teaching interests address the role of pharmacists in providing patient-centred care, practice change in community pharmacy, and patient-pharmacist communication. Lisa provides instruction for the Communication component of the course DVD.
Pharmacists from various practice settings will facilitate the small group activities.
